It just isn't my destiny to see my childhood friends

I regret to let you, my classmates, know that after a year of looking forward to seeing everyone again -- the fickle finger of fate has pointed at Hal and I again. Hal had to have artery surgery rather unexpectly the first of September. We thought it would be no big, big deal, and he would be ready for travel long before the reunion. Unfortunately, he contracted an infection and had to have his belly opened three weeks after surgery -- he is finally home from the hospital -- but he is attached to a wound pump, and I am giving him intravenous antibiotics daily as well. He feels well enough to come to Russellville, but the doctor prefers he stay in NC until he is through with treatment. We are both very disappointed with this turn of events, since we were looking forward to seeing everyone. Incidentally, the last reunion a similar thing happened-- so I guess it is not my destiny to get back home and relive the happy years I spent in Russellville.

Hope everyone has a great time and we will be thinking of you. Best regards to all --

  1. Shirley,

I am so sorry that you won't be able to attend. I was looking forward to seeing you again after all this time. We will send you a copy of the picture that we will be taking and a booklet with all the info on everyone in it. I hope your husband starts feeling better and has a quick recovery. Once again, I sure wish that you were going to be able to attend. Maybe sometime before long you will be able to return to Russellville and some of us will be able to gather to visit with you. Once you get the booklet, there will be e-mail addresses for everyone with e-mail and maybe we can stay in touch that way.

  2. We're really going to miss you, Shirley! We'll take lots of pictures, but it won't be the same without you. I hope Hal is feeling better (sounds like he is) and gets weaned from wound care very soon.

  3. Shirley, it goes without saying....I am extremely dissapointed that you won't make the reunion. You were my "bestie" in High School. I'm glad we have been able to rekindle our friendship by email. My thoughts will be with you. Hope Hal is racing you 'round the house in no time. Don't let him win a single lap!!

  4. I will look forward to getting the picture and the emails addresses. We definitely want to get to Russellville once Hal is back on his feet. I have a cousin in Bowling Green and a family cemetary plot close to Russellville that needs visiting. I would love to get together with anyone who is available once we get out of the house and back on the road.

  5. Keep us posted on when you might be in R'ville, Shirley. I'm not here very often any more, but you never know. I'd hate to think we had both been here at the same time and I had missed seeing you! And if you ever wander out as far as NM, look me up. =)
